The resistance continues! Thanks to women

Activists joined together across the country on January 18, 2020, as people marched for the fourth annual Women’s March. Tens of Thousands of people across the United States have taken part in the Women’s March. The keynote event was in Washington, D.C., but sister marches took place all across the country. The turnout overall was smaller than the initial events in 2017, but the numbers were still quite large today. This year, marches took place in 180 cities around the country.

In George Orwells “1984” “Trumpistan”, science is bad and must be squelched

As Der Gropenfuhrer Trump tries to stifle science, scientists plan to rally and march on Washington. Scientists have long worried what a Trump administration will mean for American research. And after just five days in office, the president has done plenty to fuel those fears: freezing EPA grants, issuing gag orders forbidding government employees from tweeting or talking to the press, and threatening to take down agency climate change web pages, as Reuters reported on Wednesday.

If you support science, what can you do? March about it, say scientists.

Following in the footsteps of the Women’s March on Washington last weekend, scientists have now begun to organize , with their sights also set on D.C.

They’re hoping to send a message that action is necessary to prevent changes to existing environmental and health policies albert-einstein-quotenow being proposed by the Trump administration that they believe could have devastating effects on our planet and its residents.

With the Trump administration poised to pull the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement and a former employee at Badlands National Park posting unauthorized tweets about the effects of global warming, along with the reported recent cancellation of a planned CDC conference on global warming, scientists are drawing a line in the sand :  they will not stand by on the sidelines as the new administration forges ahead with policies which oppose clearly established facts and scientific principles.

Their new website, “Scientists’ March on Washington”, http://www.scientistsmarchonwashington.com/    is a call to arms, urging “the responsible application of science to government.”

“There are certain things that we accept as facts with no alternatives.  The Earth is becoming warmer due to human action.  The diversity of life arose by evolution. Politicians who devalue expertise risk making decisions that do not reflect reality and must be held accountable.   An American government that ignores science to pursue ideological agendas endangers the world.

The group announced Wednesday that the date of the march will be posted next week.

If the record-breaking Women’s March that drew millions into the streets is any indication, Americans are prepared to turn out for progressive causes at higher numbers than ever before. Activists are already organizing a People’s Climate March to mark Trump’s 99th day in office.
