Trump once again uses migrants as his political whipping boy

Trump manufactures crisis with Mexico and then supposedly solves it

Central American migrants walk along a highway in Mexico near the border with Guatemala on their way north away from crushing poverty and repression

Our hero Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) called it all along she said it was just another Trump diversion and bluff when Trump threatened to raise tariffs on Mexico. The demon dictator had said he would impose tariffs by Monday, June 10th, but suddenly he claimed victory and backed off on Friday. “Auntie” Maxine did not seem surprised. β€œSpineless GOP Senators grew a backbone this week & finally stood up to their Dictator Trump on something: Mexico tariffs, also known as a TAX INCREASE on American consumers. Bet your bottom dollar; Trump will back off by the weekend. Just another bluff!” Congresswoman Waters said.

His GOP lapdogs were rightfully scared that this Trumpian house of cards economy would be rocked by the effect of another tax on consumers layered on top of their smoke and mirrors tax cuts for the one percenters. This would be especially harsh on food which is a non-discretionary spending item.

All this noise was just a thinly disguised racist play to his bigoted base and a somewhat successful divergence from Trumps worsening legal problems.

Only time will tell if things at the border calm down from all the Trump induced chaos and whether Mexico actually really agreed to do anything substantial

    • The New York Times reports: Trump spent much of Saturday celebrating the deal his administration sealed with Mexico mere days before threatened tariffs were set to take effect. But, in truth, the agreement consists of a series of measures that Mexico had agreed to months earlier, the New York Times reports, citing officials on both sides of the border.
The centerpiece of the agreement involves a measure that effectively expands a program that allows those seeking asylum in the United States to wait in Mexico while their claims are processed. The program was already in place at three of the busiest border crossings……

      • If Mexico had agreed to many of the measures months earlier, why hadn’t they implemented them? Reminds me of the kid who keeps putting off doing his chores..until he sees his Dad starting to take off his belt.

      • Read the Washington Post article about what Mexico really conceded to impose during bargaining to avoid tariffs, TE. President Trump played this round masterfully.

  1. JAD, trump played it masterfully, hum. The NYTs stated that most of the deal had been agreed to long before the tarrif card was played. Empty celebration. And what about him backing out of the Iran deal when nothing had changed with the Obama agreement. Now look at what we have got, three oild\ tankers burning in the strait, one Japanese, and the Japanese Prime minister in Iran for talks to find a diplomatic way out of the mess trump put us in and Bolton itching for a war. We are in trouble folks, real trouble right here in River City and our military gearing up for another war. It is getting close to madness, and the potential for military body bags coming home once again. Absolutly stupid.

    • So, in your opinion is this tanker incident more like the Gulf of Tonkin or the Battleship Maine? Both of those stories were bullshit, and so is this tanker story. Iran didn’t do shit.

  2. TE refereed to the NYT article you referenced. I’m sorry you didn’t read the Washington Post article I referenced that gave more in depth details of what was agreed upon by Mexico in more recent negotiations.

War with Iran is no big deal… nor any of the Middle East countries if they were fought properly and not for profit, as wars are fought now. Not saying we need a war, just that they’re fought improperly and unnecessarily, these days due to the industrial military complex warned to us by President Eisenhower and even earlier by Gen Smedley Butler.

We are in no more trouble than the wars fought under Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush Jr and Obama Administrations. Just more of the same ol, same ol….
