Quarterly Report: Same old, same old BS from the Police Chief

quarterly report

After the Examiner and others easily discredited his claim of violent crime being down, you would think he would be backing off of this embarrassing claim, but no, Mills is doubling down on it.

https://tuluwatexaminer.wordpress.com/2015/01/20/chief-mills-believe-me-if-i-could-find-a-way-to-make-this-not-look-bad-i-would/

The Eureka Police Department is “Charging Forward” according to their latest quarterly report:

http://ci.eureka.ca.gov/civica/filebank/blobdload.asp?BlobID=9765

How are they going to “Charge Forward”? Simple….they are going to continue to address what the police department considers the number #1 criminal problem in Eureka. Not Murder. Not Gangs. No, the cops are going to continue cracking down on the annoying and scary criminals known as………wait for it………..the homeless!

That’s right; they are going to be taking down tents and locking up shopping carts! Give us a freakin’ break. Mean while the tweakers, bangers and petty criminals continue to rule Eureka streets!

Obviously, the Chief thinks we must be too stupid to realize that the crime in Eureka is “going down”. So he using the tried a true method of; keep repeating the lie often enough and people begin to accept it.

After all, fellow dummies, the report clearly states: “End of the Year Crime Data: Violent Crime is Down”. Mills said it so it must be true. Right?

The department even provides the numbers. Murder, rape, and robbery are way up, property crimes are definitely rising, and no amount of double speak can make that seem any better.

The only one area that is down is the very questionable “Assault with a Deadly Weapon” category. AS pointed out by this blog and others the Department changed the protocol for designating an action as an ADW. So any comparisons are null and void.

Sorry Andy Mills; Eureka is calling Bullshit! on your quarterly report.

  1. I so agree with your statements in this article. I am in my mid fifties and was born and raised in Eureka. I have seen a lot of ” crime waves” come and go……this is the worst I have ever seen it. I do not go to Old Town ever and I am extremely careful when I go out to shop…..We all need to remeber the Chief of Police in Eureka is a political position and so that goes along with lies and misleading statements.

  2. The City Manager needs better direct this Police Chief. He wasting valuable resources on irritations and ignoring real crime.
Mr Sparks tell your employee to redouble his department’s efforts of fighting real crime.

  3. Has anybody ground thru the statistics to see what the comparisons are between housed criminals and unhoused?

  4. Maybe it’s just that people in Eureka have gotten more effective at murder, thereby decreasing the amount of people attacked by deadly weapons and increasing the murder rate.

Or EPD is kissing off legitimate reports.

  5. And we at Eureka Citizen were laughed at for asking Chief Mills to resign back in early January…

We are rarely on agreement with TE, but this is one issue we do agree on! Chief Mills is an embarrassment to Eureka. Since his employment began, crime has continued to rise.

    • Eureka Citizen-

While we enjoy the open dialog with you about your vision for helping Eureka’s Homeless, we need to set the record straight with you and anyone else paying attention to this blog. We have not, and are not now calling for Eureka Police Chief Andy Mills to quit or be fired. To be sure, were very critical of the job he been doing. But the buck stops with the City Council. They need to weigh in with the City Manager and direct him as to how the department should be run. Then he can clearly direct this Police Chief in moving the city forward. Remember, Chief Mills was hired from out of the area during the reign of the “Do Nothing” Brady bunch council to start addressing the real crime problems in the city. Now the council needs to make clear that the police shouldn’t be sweeping issues under the rug. The Eureka Police Department needs to be an accountable and community minded organization. If the council makes those goals clear, and Chief Mills fails to perform, then we might support the ouster of Chief Mills. But until then, it’s all about what this council is going to do…..

    • As far as I remember I am the only one who commented on your calling for the CHP to take over for Chief Mills.

I think that was crazy talk then and still do.

I am with TE on this, he’s the Chief, he can do a better job, he should do it, and listen to just more than the prayer breakfast eaters.

To be fair he’s had several really bad cases dropped on his head, he could have done better, I know we all hope he will.

    • What post was that Marmaduke? I can’t seem to find where the TE called for CHP to police Eureka.

Something that is important for you to keep in mind is that you don’t really have a free pass from most of the readers of the Tuluwat Examiner.

I’ve never seen so many versions of “We Shall See” used on one issue.

Basically, I’m pleased the panhandling issue has been put away. For the rest, time will tell if you have the backing you say you do and I don’t see the harm in waiting to know more (although I do understand Not A Native’s issues).

Personally, I’m concerned about who from out of the area has the deep pockets willing to drop a few million on Eureka and environs. I don’t believe in free lunches and I should like to know what is wanted in return.

But once we learn who that is we will probably know better. Hopefully it’s not some version of the Koch Brothers.

In the meantime… We shall see.

      And hope for the best.

    • JP, sorry I didn’t see your question earlier: back in about the last two loco articles that EC was in, EC as both the registered disqus user and another identical post in the same article by someone called EC or Eureka Citizen that wasn’t a registered disqus user, ie a guest/anonymous.
It was so odd I remarked on it a few times here and in Loco.

      EC said it here:

      http://lostcoastoutpost.com/2015/jan/16/epd-despite-high-murder-rate-violent-crime-way-dow/

and note that it was the registered disqus user version that said it:

      https://disqus.com/home/discussion/lostcoastpost/epd_despite_high_murder_rate_violent_crime_way_down_in_2014/#comment-1797074479

EC has since gone to using non-registered user names of the EC, E C, as well as the Eureka Citizen.. anonymous disqus user names instead. Probably for operational security. heh.

Yep, CHP to take over EPD…one would think one would read about that call from such a widespread group with it’s hundreds of members and ‘millions of dollars in donations.’ (‘donations’ as different than ‘pledges’ I note.)

      One would be..tada,, wrong again.

To save time here is the whole quote of the comment, see the article linked for any missing context.

      and (I attempt to) quote:

Eureka Citizen • 23 days ago
EUREKA CITIZEN HAS INFORMED EUREKA POLICE DEPARTMENT CHIEF, ANDY MILLS, THAT A REQUEST HAS BEEN MADE TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA ATTORNEY GENERAL, FOR THE IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF CHIEF MILLS BASED ON THE 2014 CRIME DETAILS RELEASED TODAY BY THE EUREKA POLICE DEPARTMENT!

EUREKA CITIZEN HAS REQUESTED THAT THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL BE PLACED AS THE PRIMARY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY FOR THE JURISDICTION OF THE CITY OF EUREKA, UNTIL SUCH TIME THAT A NEW POLICE CHIEF CAN BE HIRED TO REPLACE CHIEF MILLS! ALL CURRENT EUREKA POLICE OFFICERS WILL BE PLACED UNDER COMMAND OF THE CHP WHILE THE PROCESS TO HIRE A NEW POLICE CHIEF IS COMPLETED.

CHIEF MILLS HAS FAILED TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES FOR THE CITIZENS OF EUREKA!

      EUREKA CITIZEN”

and then after all the guffaws EC posted in small letters the same quote with the non registered anonymous name of Eureka Citizen…which, to be fair, anybody could have done….but I’m going with ‘but probably didn’t.’ as EC didn’t remark or complain later about it..
However, the registered user first said it, harder to spoof, so..I conclude it’s not a spoof.

      Better sit on your wallet.

  6. Here is what I say to the Police Chief: Justice for Tommy McClain! Hold your officers accountable for their reckless actions and choices!

    Like

    • Tommy McClain got his justice! He mixed alcohol with gun possession and confronted officers. The officers were justified in their actions when confronted by an armed citizen. Justice has already been served! Move on!

  7. Marmaduke,,,,”To be fair he’s had several really bad cases dropped on his head, he could have done better, I know we all hope he will.”
    Your being too kind….for example:
What about promoting the thug Stephens to Captain, you remember, the guy who allowed Tommy McClain to be gunned down in his front yard!

    Like

    • Tommy was “gunned down” because of his own stupidity of confronting officers while drunk and in possession of a weapon! Justice served!

      Like

    • Making what up?
His family confirmed that he was drunk and in possession of the gun (a BB gun designed to resemble a real gun) at the time of the shooting. It was all in the initial police report and signed statements from Tommy’s family were included.

What you “believe” happened, and what “really” happened, are the differences.

The family can’t retract the initial statements they gave to police at the time of the shooting. They are now trying to do so, so that they can file a civil suit and get a payday.

    • Well, I probably am being too kind, I just want him to succeed, we can’t have more failures.

Personally, I have met him out in the world a few times and he has always been polite and cheerful..and that counts for a lot. ‘You get more flies with honey than vinegar…’

(That might apply right below, it looks like EC is kicking down again at the commentariat..that temper and snippy responses are way off the ‘How To Do Good PR’ page. That’s what minions, ilk, and sockpuppets are for. You know, The 300 Sparticii vs us, the hordes of Persians..or something.)…anyhow…

As to promoting Stephens, Mills has to run a large diverse group, the shooting must have been demoralizing to them too. Running what you brung, standing up for them is one way of revving up the troops so they can function..a big sweeping change and firing would be a hard way to be the new guy from out of town. What a job, geez.

Not to disagree with your criticisms of Mills and Stephens either…

  8. MOLA: Not really concerned about a “Free Pass” from TE readers; there are much more important issues at hand. The high opinion of yourself is laughable. Now, if you actually started to TAKE action, instead of only verbally BITCH’N about problems, others might take you seriously.

    Like

    • What action exactly have you made EC?
You claim milllllllllions in funding for your project, yet that is only TALK on a blog.
You took action to draw up a plan that you know will never be fulfilled but you can say “look we dreamed up a plan”

      Liked by 1 person

    • So far we really only have your anonymous word that you and your group is “taking action,” and not just talking. Once there is some tangible evidence of this action, more people will start taking you seriously. Actually, given the lack of such tangible evidence, you have been treated to a surprising amount of “being taken seriously.” Hopefully that will turn out to be well-deserved, but given the extraordinary claims your group has made here (group of 300-400 members maintaining perfect secrecy about their involvement, millions donated or pledged by outside corporations who see Eureka as a great place to invest if only the homeless situation could be improved) I think you should be able to understand why you’re encountering some skepticism here.

      Oh pooh.

And I thought we were buddies. The era of good feelings did not last long, did it?

If you want to despise the mere fact of my existence than go to it… you would not be alone.

But I have advised (in an attempt to actually help you in a spirit of good feeling) that you need to look at your PR methods… unnecessarily making enemies where you don’t have any is just a poor idea.

And arrogant: Your out of town friends will provide everything so screw everybody who doesn’t play “Hail to the Chief” every time you enter the room.

You want cooperation? Then act like that cooperation means something to you.

Otherwise there is no point in your trying to justify your actions to anybody else… such as the readers of the Tuluwat Examiner: After all, you got it handled already.

Almost forgot… we only have your word for it that you have taken any action at all.

And you have no idea what actions I or anyone else may have taken… and chose not to brag about it.

    • Mola, who would want to pave the town with good pr prior to do what?

No market to sell anything, even Home Depot and Trader Joe’s doesn’t want us, no labor force, poor transportation access..oh wait..the harbor….hmmmm.

The railroad EW plan was also a big lobbydoodledo, strange we haven’t heard much of that, and it sure would need much more than a trainload of good pr.

Cruise ships and Container port was a Good Idea to get money from would be backers…and would need a lot of gubmint support as well as cause local damages and displacement. We are already hearing the NIMBY bullshit with no details, gee, why would that be?

A coal port, a CNG port, all proposed in similar small towns with ocean access, and fought tooth, nail, and bloody claw by local residents. These industries would as soon bulldoze the town as negotiate, they work the national and international controls.

A prison?..Gov Brown is very agin private prisons, maybe if this was Arizona.

Man, I dunno. Must be something to get money from the govt and be imposed on us..there will be something somebody will not be happy with, guaranteed.

Maybe the space people are coming back.
