Emerald Triangle’s version of Blackwater?

Rumors are circulating about a clandestine para-military group swooping in and seizing Medical Cannabis grows in Mendocino County.

The Campbell Timber Company has reportedly been using a private security group to police it’s lands. Is this the same group branching out in vigilante operations?

While the trespass grow scene is clearly out of hand this is a troubling development.

This news comes at the same time as the bewildering statement by the Mendocino County Sheriff.

Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman stated “Recently, our expert was not able to find any marijuana plants in the National Forest, It doesn’t mean there weren’t any; we just didn’t locate any at that time.”

What the hell is going on?

  1. Shoot, paying for public enforcement is too expensive, why not privatize it?

(it’s a rhetorical question, but one liberals should consider if we want to have laws AND enforce them)

FTR (for the record) privatization of jails, our military (to include KP duty), and now apparently local police enforcement makes me sick to my stomach and thank you TE for bringing attention to this.

  2. Well, everyone who is opposed to a particular law calls for reducing enforcement and tries to enlist support from the anti-tax contingent by pointing out enforcing that law costs money. And everyone who supports a particular law calls to increase enforcement and tries to facilitate direct enforcement action by ordinary people.

The money and personal action aren’t the primary concern for most people. The primary concern is what the law should be. The rest is just politics, collateral efforts to enlarge the group that supports your position. So this flurry around vigilantism is simply playing out the ongoing legalize/don’t legalize political debate.

  3. “The Campbell Timber Company has reportedly been using a private security group to police it’s lands” and they have a perfect right to do so.
I’m not gonna buy them “Branching Out” to private property that isn’t on their land until I see some proof though because they would have absolutely no authority to do that, if they are they need to be prosecuted for it.

  4. My first thought was this is the Mendo Sheriffs dept. Then Allman said it wasn’t them and he didn’t know who it was. He also seemed somewhat disinterested in the issue. Who ever this is they have air support, that makes me take the blackwater type group charge seriously.
