Kerrigan Vs Bass – it’s on!

The Examiner welcomes Chris Kerrigan in to the ring! In what promises to be a hard fought battle.

Chris is a great campaigner, as he has proven in the past. Being the youngest ever elected to the Eureka City Council and then being reelected after a full on, Arkley backed assault, by Rex Bohn. It was full lies and rumors, even a EPD dirty tricks squad. We know that Chris will come out swinging. What we’ll watch for is the Mathew Owens political machine that will ratchet up the negativity.  Followed as always by the usual dirty tricks. Watch for Owens minion John Chiv to launch the first salvos.

From the Kerrigan Campaign;

On Friday, March 7th, Humboldt County 4th generation native Chris Kerrigan will be announcing his intention to run for the 4th district Board of Supervisors seat on the front stairs of the Humboldt County Elections office. Chris Kerrigan and his campaign staff will be holding a press announcement ceremony at 12:15pm.

We need supporters such as yourselves to accompany us at this event! The more supporters we have, the better. This is an important moment for Chris’s campaign. It will be a great start to a great campaign, and we couldn’t do it without his supporters. Pl

ease join us while Chris speaks to the public and the press about his candidacy.

Chris is currently a board member of the Boys and Girls Club and Keep Eureka Beautiful. As Eureka City Councilmember (2000-2008), Chris focused on economic development, public safety and planning to create a livable, walkable community. He plans to bring these values to the Board of Supervisors. Chris’s priorities are expansion of air service, development of short sea shipping and completion of trails from Arcata to King Salmon.

DATE: Friday, March 7th

TIME: 12:15 PM

LOCATION: Front stairs of the Humboldt County Elections Office, 3033 H Street Eureka, CA 95501 (Corner of H St & Harris St.)

Thank you and I hope to see you all there!

  1. He should have made his announcement in front of the DownTowner.

  2. This is really good news. Chris is well informed, very down to earth, and well connected to the right people. He will make a great Sup. and a needed voice in the county. Go get’um Chris.

And these ARE THE qualifications for a “great Sup? No wonder every elected-official body, i.e., City Council, County Superintendent, State Assembly, etc. is corrupt and totally lawless – without any legitimacy as a Sovereign representative body.

  4. If Kerrigan has a short coming, it’s always trying to do the right thing. Compare that to Bass, always trying to please Owens, the Arkley posse and CPR.

  5. If John Chiv is the most potent weapon in the Bass arsenal then it should be a walk-over for Kerrigan.

Alas, Mr. Chiv isn’t anything but a self centered personal biased based blogger (in other words like the majority of blogs) who somehow won a connection to LoCO.

Bass’s weapon is the “Machine” that has risen to run this county who confidently run roughshod over the desires of the people who don’t have what they have and thus do not count.

Arkleyville is history, Arkley County is now. Perhaps we should call the man Baron Arkley Count of Humboldt.

  6. Arkleyville is a life style and a state of mind, more than a place.
Count is a good title for ol’ Robin Percival

  7. The Examiner: Oh, I agree.

But Arkley County is the new and improved person with a broader “vision.” Perhaps if they are successful creating the State of Jefferson they will rename the place the State of Arkley in his honor.

  9. In defense of Mr. Chiv and bloggers. I disagree with almost everything he writes. I think he has a spot on the T-S largely because he toes the party line, and let’s be clear, dispite all the anti-partisan talk, there is a clear conservative line in this town and county.

I would respectfully ask the staff of the TE to reconsider the effectiveness of words like “minions” to describe the folks in our small town. I think that is what drives the passion against the political food fights. Focus on the disparate and distinct policy differences and use all sorts of colorful language to distinguish them, but talk of people’s character is going to alienate as many or more as it attracts.

I think one goal of Kerrigan’s campaign is to reach out to the non or infrequent voter. Tell ’em it’s time to get involved. AND then it’s the personality-driven blogs job to try to help lift the curtains on the tricky political games that are played to get conservatives elected in a County where the majority understands we do need to work toward a different and more effective way of running our public sector. (ie more like a public sector and less like the Chamber of Commerce)

  10. Liberal Jon:

If you say so. I personally don’t see any difference between Mr. Chiv and the perhaps hundreds of other bloggers around this area who are rightly ignored by the wider media because all he has to offer is court house gossip (not even particularly good gossip at that) and barely informed personal opinion. Perhaps it’s just me.

I do agree that both sides (and/or all sides) of any argument needs to be presented in a respectful and informed manner if true consensus has any hope of being reached in a community. Mr. Chiv doesn’t (in my book) stack up to that.

As to Mr. Chiv’s connection to the TS, I wouldn’t know. I no longer have a connection to the TS (I get a notice I have used up all my free views for the month even at the beginning of a new month). Yes, I’m a freeloader.

As to the use of the word “minions.” Perhaps the word is pejorative but it’s also descriptive. Our leaders, City of Eureka and County, behave just like minions; doing what they are told to do and if they are in doubt what that is they stall until new orders arrive.

Unlike as with Mr. Chiv, I do usually agree with you LJ. But…

  11. Actually, to be fair; Mr. Chiv at least uses his own name.

What do I have to offer? Barely informed opinion and NO court house gossip.

So I guess I need to acknowledge he’s at least two points ahead of me.

Except in this case, they’re right, it fits.
Many of us involved in the Bonnie Neely re-election campaign remember all of the stalking and stolen yard signs by Holmquist and Chiv, who were part of Mathew’s street team.

  13. I love what the Oxford Dictionary has to say about ‘minion’.”A follower or underling of a powerful person, especially a servile or unimportant one”. It does have the ring of truth regarding certain groups in the city and county government. It could also describe the monied power behind the cast of our elected officials. Just a thought to give the discussion direction. Sharpen your pencils everyone.

So you would prefer someone who’s ignorant, an airhead and doesn’t know other people in government. Okay.”

Where did you come up with that nonsense? How about a proven record of honesty, moral character and integrity for a change? Someone with the capacity to speak for themselves, “what I prefer is what I say I prefer, if you don’t mind..

  15. Tuluwatexaminer, while I commend you on your blog objectives and article sourcing, particularly because you operate as an anonymous blogger, I am inclined to believe that it is mostly a hopeless endeavor. How do you better the community when you’re constantly plagued by these wannabe kinds of aristocratic demigods that are all the time enforcing and re-enforcing their right to judge and determine truth with their lies and personal invective? Everyone of these people vying for elected office delegitimize themselves – no decent, honest person with an iota of self-respect would tolerate the personal degradation. The following excerpt from your “KERRIGAN VS BASS – IT’S ON!” thread is a good example. Here I commented on something “watchman” said and was confronted by jtimmons88 and then, like common rabble, summarily dismissed.

  17. Sorry Mr. Blow but that is the internet. It’s your choice if you want to re-enact the internet version of the Monty Python routine where two people whack each other with large fish.

You have your viewpoint, jtimmons88 has his (or her’s, who knows). I don’t much agree with your viewpoint (that I can figure out anyway) but I don’t think much of jtimmons88’s viewpoint either, on top of which he is rude; but not to the point of banning.

If all we did here was preach to the choir all Sunday long then there would not be any point for there being a TE at all.

I preach the creed of Tolerance; some of us (myself included no doubt) need it more than others.

But that’s for TE (or TulEx) to decide anyway. Just my unsolicited (and no doubt unwelcome) two cents worth.
