According to the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding between agencies participating in the Humboldt County Drug Task Force, disbursement’s for assets seized will go to the Humboldt County Sheriffs Office (3 Shares), the Humboldt County DA’s Office (2 Shares), Arcata PD (1 Share), Eureka PD (1 Share) and CHP (0 Shares and 25% of Assets Seized During Routine Traffic Stops). The Humboldt County Sheriffs Office now runs the Task Force, hence the larger share.
The last local coverage that the Examiner has seen regarding the amount of assets actually taken was for 2011, which amounted to over $1 Million Dollars. Since 2012 we have noticed that instead of press releases regarding huge amounts of heroin and methamphetamine being taken off the streets, the news has been mostly about alleged “Mega-Grows”. Given the recent allegations from a former police officer regarding quotas being set in his department for marijuana related arrests and seizures, why hasn’t the local media looked into what the Drug Task Force has been up to?
Three questions quickly come to mind. What is the amount of money or assets seized in 2012 and 2013? How much Heroin, Methamphetamine, MDMA, LSD, ect., was seized in 2012 and 2013? Do these figures seem comparable to when the California Department of Justice ran the local Drug Task Force?
